5 Things Women With Perfect Skin Always Do

5 Things Women With Perfect Skin Always Do

We all know them – women with perfect, gorgeous, flawless skin.
They all live in different places and use different skin care products, so the answer isn’t a magic serum or lotion or potion. (Although I swear by all the lotions and potions that I use, and won’t trade in a single one of them!)

There are 5 things that women with perfect skin all do, and that no matter which skin care products you are using, if you’re not doing these 5 things you won’t make it to skin care perfection.

They Exercise

 yoga

They all do some form of exercise regularly. (Not necessarily running marathons – you have to be super careful as an outdoor runner to keep your skin and yourself hydrated and to be saturated in facial SPF) Be it yoga or spin class or hiking or going to the gym, girls with perfect skin all move their bodies one way or another.

They Drink Lots Of Water

You can’t have perfect skin and be dehydrated. It’s a simple equation – great skin needs tons of water. Just for basic good health your body needs 8 glasses of water each day, great skin likes a little more.
Girls with perfect skin tend to shy away from high sugar drinks, avoid sodas, limit coffee and tea and only drink alcohol sparingly.

They Make Sleep A Priority

Without enough sleep you will never have perfect skin.
JLo, who is famous for her spectacular skin says she gets 10 hours sleep per night. I cannot even imagine what it must feel like to have the kind of support with home and children that enables you to just rack out each night for 10 hours! For those of us that fall into the mere mortal category 8 hours each night is the ideal for good health and for great skin.

They Eat Clean

What you put into your body will be reflected on your skin.
Women with perfect skin tend to eat a pretty clean diet, most of the time. The occasional slice of pizza or drive through meal probably doesn’t hurt, but in general these women avoid those foods like the plague, opting instead for diets rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, quality fats (like avocado).

They Use The Right Cleanser

I can’t stress how important this is! Sensitive skin, dry skin, irritated skin so often are caused and exacerbated by using the wrong formula of cleanser. The wrong cleansers can strip the good oils from the skin, sometimes making the skin desperately make more oil, other times leaving it roughed up and dry. Women with perfect skin use cleansers that dissolve and remove makeup and cleanse away impurities and balance their skin.

My favorite cleanser is Memebox I'm Cleansing Oil, available online at Memebox.com

Behind The Scenes Out Of This World Fantastics Magazine Shoot

I always forget to post my own editorial shoots here on the blog.

When we were in Los Angeles shooting the Out Of This World editorial for Fantastics Magazine I attempted to get some behind the scenes photos, but for the most part wound up being too busy.

Anyway, here is a little glimpse at some of the making of the Out Of This World shoot :)

Prime Time ~ All About Primers

If you want your complexion to look younger, fresher and more even than everyone else, and if you want your makeup to last all day, the key is to use a primer.

Primers are pre-makeup bases that help mask fine lines and wrinkles, make your skin look smoother, help your foundation to go on evenly, and help it to last.

Your skin needs to be well moisturized (makeup grabs onto dry areas, making it look uneven and patchy),
and your facial SPF needs to have a couple of minutes to absorb before you apply your primer. If your skin still feels a bit dewy give it another minute or two.

You only need a small amount - about the size of a raisin. Massage it into your skin focusing on your T Zone first, and then across your cheeks.
Apply your primer sparingly - if you use too much it will ball up under your makeup.

Primers can be slippery, making it easier for your foundation to blend. Ideally apply your foundation with a duo fiber foundation brush to get a gorgeously even and light application.

There are many different types of primer. Here are a few:

For Dryness if you battle a drier complexion, look for a primer with hydrating ingredients lick glycerin, that will help provide a barrier that holds moisture in.

For Dullness primers with a pink or lilac hue can color correct out sallowness in the skin, making it look a little fresher. I particularly love Makeup Forever HD Primer in Lilac to cancel out too much yellow or dullness in the complexion.

For Redness use a green tinted primer, but be careful - too much green will leave your complexion looking very ashy.

For Fine Lines, Wrinkles and Enlarged Pores use a primer with peptides to reduce lines or even with tea tree oil to reduce shine.

For Acne use an oil free primer with anti acne ingredients and with silica to absorb excess oils.

* Using primer on your throat, chest and the backs of your hands can leave your skin looking silky and smooth all day.

Eye Shadow primers are a must too.

They will make your eye shadow go on more evenly, make the colors more true, and will make your eye makeup hold throughout the day.
I particularly like Lorac Behind The Scenes Eye Primer

If your lipstick tends to feather, or if you have trouble keeping lipstick on, try using a lip primer, or even dab a little of your facial or eye shadow primer onto your lips first.
Give it a few moments to settle in before applying your lip liner and  lipstick.'
But remember - use it sparingly...

How To Get Glowing, Beautiful Skin

Now that winter is over, and summer is on its way, this is the perfect time to get started creating a beautiful, radiant complexion.

The cold months leave us with dried out, lackluster looking skin which needs a little extra lovin' to get back on track and look fresh and youthful.
Here's a little step-by-step guide to help you get gorgeous, radiant skin, just in time for the warmer weather.

How To Get Glowing, Beautiful Skin
(in 6 easy steps)

1. Exfoliate Daily With Clarisonic

If you follow this blog then you probably already know that I am a huge fan of the Clarisonic. When I'm doing movies I get Clarisonics for all my leading ladies - they make such a huge difference to the skin.
Basically, using a Clarisonic every day will cleanse your skin 6X deeper, and will lift away debris from the surface of the skin.
Light reflects off of smooth surfaces, making your skin look fresher, younger and more vital.

2. Weekly Enzyme Mask
I'm not a fan of exfoliating scrubs.
I always think they rough up the baby skin underneath, so instead I have my clients use enzyme masks to exfoliate, such as this one by Ren
Skin looks vibrant and alive after an enzyme mask, and it feels fabulous.

3. Moisturize.
Use a quality moisturizer morning and night.
Moisturizers containing ceramides and/or niacinamide strengthen the lipid barrier, which is the absolute key to glowing skin.
Make sure you apply your moisturizer liberally, and work it into the skin in an upward motion.

4. Brighten
Brighten dark spots/patches and even out skin tone with serums and/or creams that contain kojic acid, hydroquinone or vitamin C

5. Facial SPF

Use a free standing facial SPF of 50+
If your daily moisturizer has SPF in it already, still use a free standing facial SPF over top, and apply it liberally.
Don't forget your throat and decolletage. I tell my clients to only apply it where they want to look pretty - nothing ages you faster than sun damage.

6. Fake A Tan
Don't let the sun tan your face, as it just fast tracks the aging process. Instead opt for a fake tan, but don't go color crazy. Adding a little golden glow to your complexion will leave you looking radiant and beautiful.

Behind The Scenes, Ad Campaign

A few weeks back we shot a national ad campaign

Photographer Eric Cassee is one of my absolute
favorite photographers of all time
- we always have a blast working together,
and he is completely and utterly brilliant.

He cleans up pretty well too.

He pulls together a really fun and super talented team
which it is always an honor to be a part of.
MidFirst Bank Campaign, crew and execs shot

A job like this campaign has a decent sized crew, plus
there are people from the ad agency,
the client representatives etc, so there are
a lot of bodies on set.

Here is a little look behind the scenes at how a campaign gets made.
