The Three Main Hair Color Trends For Fall 2015

Yesterday I wrote about the 7 Step Checklist For Fabulous Fall Hair, today I'm looking at the three main color trends for this fall.

To help me out I talked to celebrity colorist Heather Strange, formerly of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, and now based at Carolyne's Salon in Scottsdale.

The 3 Main Color Trends For Fall 2015

Heather told me that this season the blondes have become warmer, and interestingly the brunettes have become cooler!

Lets take a look:

If You Are Blonde

The first thing you need to do is get rid of platinum and ashy tones. Instead add in honey and caramel tones to richen the color up for the wintery months.

Buttery, beige blondes work magic on your washed out, winter complexion. Adding warmth to your blonde, especially around the face, is a beautiful way to approach the cooler weather.

If You Are A Brunette

This season marks a big change for brunettes! Normally we think of adding deep, warm lowlights to winter brunettes, or infusing lighter red toned highlights. But this year it's all new.

For fall 2015 icy browns are in. A cool brown fading into lighter, cool chestnut is a fabulous modern alternative to highlights.

If You Are A Redhead

Red tones always rule for fall. 

Heather says a champagney red is beautiful if you want to stay a little lighter, or if you are feeling more bold, cinnamon accents compliment most rosy shades.

Two Extra Tips:

Heather threw in 2 extra tips for gorgeous fall hair.

1. To keep your hair moist and your color vibrant during the dry, bitter winter months, think about adding an oil to your hair regimen, like Oribe Gold Lust. (this is what she has me using!)

2. If you are a gym rat consider just rinsing and conditioning after your hard workout session, instead of using shampoo every day. This will help your color last longer, and will stop you from stripping away the essential nutrients that your hair needs.

7 Step Checklist For Fabulous Fall Hair

Have you changed your hair up yet for autumn/winter?
I love autumn hair, and I love getting my hair ready for the colder months, especially after wearing it up for most of the summer.
I also love the ASOS black fedora in the picture above. I think that is going to be my hat for the season!

Here is my 7 step checklist to get your hair fabulous for fall:

1. Clarify.

Malin + Goetz Clarifying Peppermint Shampoo

Use a clarifying shampoo to clear out the last of the dry shampoo, leave in conditioner, SPF, shine products - everything you've been piling into your hair over the last few months. Many colorists also recommend using a clarifying shampoo the day before coming in for your new color. 
Try Malin + Goetz Peppermint Shampoo, it's super gentle (some clarifying shampoos feel like you've just used dish washing liquid on your hair) and it cleanses and purifies your hair and scalp while it re-balances them too.

2. Do A Scalp Treatment

Just as our complexions need masks and deep treatments, so do our scalps. One of my hairstylist friends turned me onto 
Nioxin Scalp Renew a few months ago when I was convinced my hair was growing thinner and weaker strands. She said that just as we need to exfoliate our face, our scalp needs an occasional micro-dermabrasion treatment too, but without all the gritty stuff.
After a long summer of product use, perspiration, maybe some excess oils, or just the extra products we use during the summer, you'll love the way your hair thanks you for an at home scalp treatment like this one. Your hair not only looks revitalized, but it gets it's bounce back too!

3. Add In A Strengthening Product.

My hairdresser has me using Olaplex once per week to strengthen my hair, eliminate damage and make it extra glossy. If you color your hair you will find your color lasts longer and stays more vibrant and healthy looking.

4. Get A Good Cut.

As soon as summer is over (which here in Phoenix is not til mid or late October) you need to get a really good cut. Have your shape restyled, or go for something new, but get rid of the last inch of summer - more if needed. All the damage done by surf, sun, chlorine and hot weather needs to be removed so that your hair can be fabulous for fall.

5. Warm Up

Fall is definitely the time to warm up your hair color and get rid of the brassy tones of summer. Especially you blonde girls - get rid of your platinums and icy blondes, and replace them with warm honey blondes and baby beige blondes.

6. Moisturize

Cold weather, central heating, wind, basically all the elements of fall and winter strip your hair of its natural moisture. Repair, protect, and generally love your hair up with a luxurious deep treatment moisture mask. Make sure you use one that won't weigh your hair down or leave it limp. 7. De-Frizz

Autumn wind and rain can wreck havoc on your 'do and leave you with frizzy hair. Hats and scarves rubbing on your hair can do the same. Use a lightweight oil to tame your hair and keep the frizzies under control. I use Oribe Gold Lust Oil to keep my hair smooth. The video had 27.7 million views in the first 24 hours, and in the first 5 days hit and surpassed 100 million views, making her Vevo platinum faster than any other artist. Ever.

I don't think she has ever looked more beautiful. She has grown into her face exquisitely. And speaking of exquisite, her makeup in this video is just achingly beautiful. And perfect.

Adele is out there doing press for her new album, 25, which drops on November 20th. It is so refreshing to see how candid and real and ballsy she has remained despite the accolades and huge financial success, which rounds the interesting edges off of so many.
While most successful artists start to sound manufactured, she is her own person. I love it.
She also has perfected the balance of private life and public life, not feeling the need to be papped every 5 minutes, or keep up a big public profile. Which makes it exciting when she does have something to say.

How To Detox For Fall ~ 8 Simple Changes That Make A Huge Difference.

Do you feel like you need to do a good detox before the holiday season gets into full swing?
I do.
But with my work schedule I just can't commit to juice fasting or any extreme detoxes that can make me irritable or sick or just plain exhausted. So while googling around for some different options I cam e across this post on Byrdie.com. And I can easily do pretty much all of these!

Hydrate

Drinking water slowly throughout the entire day will allow your body to use nature’s elixir effectively, so drink it between meals, too. Mayo Clinic recommends nine cups for women (72 ounces) and 11 cups for men (88 ounces); however, many factors affect hydration, so if you work out, drink lots of caffeine, or plan to spend your day in the sun, then up your intake. Water’s benefits are nearly endless—detoxification, weight loss, fatigue relief, headache prevention, and better skin health and digestion. 

Drink Chlorophyll Water

Add Coconut Oil

Start or end your day with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Known to speed your metabolism and regulate yeast overgrowth (aka Candida), coconut oil is great in coffee, tea, or a smoothie. Many people don’t realize when they have a yeast overgrowth, and since it feeds on sugar, a big night out with wine or a sweet tooth could promote its growth. To maintain gut balance, incorporate coconut oil, like Nutriva’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil ($21 for a two-pack), into cooking, or take a spoonful daily. And don’t forget a probiotic, too! 

Fast for 12 Hours

Between dinner and breakfast, get a complete 12 hours of fasting in. The first six to eight hours after eating dinner, your body is focused on digestion; however, the last four hours are dedicated to detox and are also the most effective fat-burning time. Eating too late can cause leptin to signal to the brain that no energy is required, and thus no fat burning will occur until early morning hours if at all.

Sleep in a Blackout

Many of us aren't aware of all the wonderful benefits of sleep, and unfortunately we aren't actually getting the good stuff. Invest in blackout curtains and stop letting the morning light wake you up. In theory, it’s a great idea to stay on a circadian rhythm, but any light in your bedroom (including light from a street lamp, cell phone, or TV) could be preventing you from getting cleansing sleep. Benefits of sleep include (but aren't limited to) regulating hormones, curbing appetite, lessening inflammation and stress, lowering depression, spurring creativity, and improving memory and overall outlook on life. Heat Things Up

If you can’t work out, consider thermogenesis training. Infrared sauna or cryotherapy is a great way to challenge your metabolism on an off day. As much as we all need a killer red lip for fall, maybe a deep, sultry oxblood, we also all need a really good nude lipstick that's perfectly toned to work the cooler weather.

Our summer nude lips don't always work so well in autumn. They can look too chalky or too bare, and instead of complimenting our complexions they can suck the life out of them.
Look for a nude lip that has some warmth to it, and that isn't too yellow.

In Salerno ~ From The Glam Italia 2 Tour

This year the Corinna B's World Glam Italia Tour took in the Amalfi Coast from a different angle. Instead of staying in Sorrento, Positano or Praiano as we have done in the past, this time we stayed at the bottom end of the Amalfi Coast in one of my new absolute favorite places in Italy, the magnificent and almost tourist free Salerno. 
I am in love with this glorious little city on the water.

Anna owns a restaurant in a converted 5th century chapel. It's called Taverna Santa Maria De Domno. I cannot go to Salerno and not eat there at least once.
Her food is so good you have to eat it as slowly as you can. It fills your soul while it fills your belly. and she tells stories that make you cry you laugh so hard.

The food is unbelievable, the wine list is sensational (I don't know enough to choose wines in Campania, so either my local friends do it or Nello chooses for me) and the ambience is just gorgeous in this renovated 5th century chapel.
