In The Mood For A Little New Season's Makeup Shopping?

I love to look to Chanel for product inspiration at the beginning of each season. They always have such a brave and bold mix of modern and classic, so impeccably chic and fashion forward.

This season Chanel is keeping emphasis on a bold, strong eye, with a soft, delicate kiss of a  mouth.

So if you're in the mood for some makeup shopping, here are some fun new things to look at:

Chanel lip products always have amazing texture, and the colors are not only at the forefront of fashion, but are also instant classics.

How To Transition Your Makeup From Summer To Fall

As those long, lovely days of summer are coming to an end, its time to start transitioning our makeup from our summer look into our fall look.

And there's no need to do it all at once. No one wants to go from a glowing, tanned, fresh from the beach visage to a pasty, pale gray weather one in any great hurry, so here are some easy steps to take you slowly into a beautiful season change:

1. Start easing up on the self tanner.
Over the next few weeks either dilute your facial self tanner with moisturizer, or just start using it every other day, then start spacing out the days in between self tanning. This lets you subtly move from looking like a languid vacation in the islands to the busy it girl about town, without the sudden shock of instant pallor.

2. Start using less bronzer.
Not only use less, but step down to a softer, paler shade.

3. Use a darker lipliner.
If you're not ready to leave your glossy summer lips behind you, modify them with a darker liner. This helps to lessen the torment of moving into a deeper, moodier winter lip.

4. Start moving into fall lip colors.
The transition is easier made when taking one small step at a time. As you lighten the tan, let your lip be the first thing to start making its way into the new season. A fuller, warmer lip looks gorgeous with your softer, summer eyes.

5. Start chiseling your cheeks.
As we move into fall our sunkissed summer cheeks evolve into more chiseled, contoured cheekbones. Utilize highlighters and luminizers to keep looking fresh faced, as you start building into a more structured look.

6. Start moving into a stronger brow.
As the colder weather moves in and the new makeup colors arrive on the scene, the soft, natural brow gets lost. Transitioning to a power brow overnight can feel too severe, so slowly start building to a more constructed, defined brow

7. Start changing up your eyeshadows.
As you complete the move into fall makeup, lose the lighter shimmery, summery eyeshadows, opting instead for something a little more muted, a little more smoldering. Work in some deeper, bolder liner

See? Seven simple steps and you're on your way to an easy summer to fall transition!

5 Simple Steps To Soothing Summer Skin Stress

Summer is coming to an end, and with vacations, pool parties, beach time, drinks with umbrellas in them and fun in the sun mostly (but not entirely!) behind us now, its time to check out the damage we've done to our skin, and get it back on the road to glorious in time for fall.

Here's the Girlfriend's Guide to Summer Skin Repair:

1. Change up your cleanser.

When your skin has taken a beating show it some love with a gentle cleanser. Cleansers containing vitamin C will give you an antioxidant boost and a little extra protection, while healing some of the superficial damage at the same time.

2. Exfoliate.

I'm not a fan of exfoliating scrubs - I always think they're scratching the baby skin underneath. Try an enzyme mask instead. Fruit enzymes will eat away that dull, lifeless layer on the surface, leaving you with fresh, radiant, youthful skin

3. Replenish.

Use facial masks to replenish and repair damaged skin. Alaskan Glacial Mud mask detoxes, exfoliates and nourishes the complexion, and leaves the skin feeling soft and lovely.

4. Repair.

Repair sun damage and start minimizing dark sun spots with a brightening serum. If you have more significant sun spots look at having  fruit acid peels, or laser to make them go away.

5. Hydrate.

Drink tons of water, use a good moisturizer during the day, a facial SPF (every day!)and a night cream at night to fortify and hydrate your skin.

Update on Spring Summer 2011 Runway Hair & Makeup

Today's Daily Dish on SheKnows.com was all about what's happening with hair and makeup on the runways at Fashion Week NYC.

We shot this one two days into Fashion Week, and here's what we were seeing:

Hair:

Three main trends emerging with hair were all fabulous and fun (and easy for you and me to duplicate!)
1. Hair was completely pulled back from the face. Richard Chai showed it pulled back then worn long, Christian Siriano showed it pulled back and up.

2. Hair had a very deconstructed look and feel. Instead of being pulled back severely, it was loose and soft. Flyaways were not only okay, they were cool (yay!)

3. Hair was soft, feminine and flirty. Its easier for us to look lovely when hairstyles are soft and casual! Soft, high buns, ponies and side braids made for stress free tresses.

Makeup:

1. With the hair pulled back it was all about having a perfect complexion. Fire up your Clarisonic, bust out the deep cleansing masks, and get your skin extra lovely for spring!
Toss any matte or heavy foundations, and replace them with products that let your beautiful skin shine through. Use a luminizer or highlighter along the top of your cheekbones, temples and bridge of your nose to make your skin look truly radiant!

2. Brows are soft and lovely, cheeks are well defined, but pretty in pinky-nude shades.

3. Eyes are smudgy and muted, lips are either barely there bare with muted pink undertones, or
popping with bright invigorating color.
