Fox 10 Golden Globes Recap

Were you watching the Golden Globes segment we did this morning on Fox?
I think only the Arizona crowd could access it.

We were duplicating my favorite makeup looks from Sunday's red carpet,
so that you can pull them off yourself, and wear them out this weekend.
Fun!

So here's what I used:

My favorite look of the night was the gorgeous Christina Hendricks from MadMen.

Her makeup artist, Vanessa Scali, used the new Depsea and Egerie collection from Shu Uemura.

I used Julie Hewett eye palette in Soiree, applied with an Oval Shadow brush, a Chisel Fluff brush, and lined her upper eyelid with Makeup Forever Aqualiner in black, using a Bent Liner brush.
Then I added some Star Powder from Makeup Forever to make it glisten.

To create that gorgeous, perfect red lip I used my favorite red of all time, Julie Hewett's amazing Rouge Noir lipliner and lipstick and the CorinnaB Lip brush.

Sandra Bullock's makeup artist, Angela Levin used an assortment of Chanel shadows and Beige Felin lips to get this look.

To recreate this beautiful violet eye, I used Dolce by Julie Hewett, with an Oval Shadow brush, then Nars shadows Barbuda with the Chisel Fluff brush and Night Fever with the Angle Blender brush.
Using the Taklon Liner brush I ran some of the slightly sparkly Night fever through her lash line to get a shimmery liner.
I finished her eye with a touch of Julie Hewett Pixie, applied with my finger.

For her cheeks I used Julie Hewett cheekie in Vampie.

On her lips, Chanel's Beige Felin applied with the CorinnaB Lip brush.

To recreate Marion Cotillard's exquisite look, I used the Julie Hewett eye palette in Petite Four. I used the Oval Shadow brush to apply soft pinky Beurre all over, then the Chisel Fluff brush to run Mica over the eyelid.
I lined her eye with MAC Slate pencil liner, then using the Smudger brush I buffed the line out with a soft gray shadow.

That perfect, sexy, soft lip I used Julie Hewett lipstick in Simone

All makeup brushes are from CorinnaB.com

Breakfast TV With Fox

So last week I taped a segment with Fox for their breakfast programming.
We shot it at the gorgeous Arizona Biltmore,
which is hosting a Bridal Bootcamp with the ever amazing Victoria Canada at the end of the month.

This is a fabulous opportunity for brides to get up close and personal with all the vendors,
and get to talk weddings without being crushed in a bridal fair crowd scene
where everyone is trying to sell you something.

It's actually a super fun, super fab event.
Will and I will be there talking hair and makeup, and doing demo's etc.

Here we are doing some final touches on my model, the lovely Jennifer.
She is fantastic fun to work with - just how I like it!

We talked about beautiful radiant skin, and soft glowing cheeks.

Here we are at the end.
What fun!

If you are in the Arizona area, or are thinking about getting married out here, you can check out the Bridal Bootcamp on The Arizona Biltmore's page
or on facebook

Makeup Trends 2010

Oh dear!
Not quite sure that it is humanly possible to have
a more unflattering camera angle.
Or a worse hairdo.

The info is spot on though.

I apologize if these shots of me make your eyes bleed.

But here are the big new makeup trends for spring/summer 2010

Golden Globe Love!!!

I so loved the red carpet for the Globes last night!
Some year's the fashions aren't so fab, but the 67th Annual Golden Globes,
despite the pouring rain, were sensational!

I'm a little late getting today's post up, but between flying back from LA and racing to a magazine cover shoot, we're just gonna roll with it...

Today we're talking makeup, so lets look at the hottest looks from last night.

My absolute, most favorite moment on the red carpet was Christina Hendricks from Mad Men.
She absolutely
rocked it!
I love a red head in a red lip at the best of times, but this was so completely fabulous.
She stood out the moment she stepped onto the carpet.
Fresh, modern, beautiful and alive!
Loved it!

And so bold to pair a red lip with a peachy champagne dress, but so completely perfect!

My favorite color showed up this year, and looked totally spectacular.
Beautiful, vivid purple.

Sandra Bullock pulled it off to perfection with her violet eye makeup.

Makeup artist Angela Levin created this gorgeous look with a combination of Chanel eyeshadows
Silky Eye Duo in Orient Express, and Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Trace. She lined the eye with Chanel's Long Lasting Eyeliner in Violine, and used the lovely Rouge Coco lip colour in Beige Felin.
All of which I am sure will have sold out nationwide before today is over.

I am always excited to see the exquisitely beautiful Marion Cotillard.
She is consistently sensational on the red carpet.
This event was no exception.
She was magnificent.
Clear, radiant skin, a soft blue/gray liner, and I loved the lip color.
It looks like Bibo from Julie Hewett.

I could be mistaken, but it looks like Mr Jimmy Choo peeping out from her hemline too...

And then, of course, always perfection, the divine Miss Penelope Cruz.
She never, ever lets us down!
I loved the deep berry tones in her eye makeup.
She never looks less than stunning.
Love her!

The two themes that I most enjoyed at this year's Golden Globes were the soft, feminine hairstyles, and the slightly elongated eye.
Both looks are lovely on everyone, you and me included!

Have a gorgeous day!

The Globes Are Coming!!

I'm so excited!
My favorite season is here.
Award Show Season!

That means all the fabulous fun of the red carpet.
This year I'm not in Hollywood working on the shows,
but I will be watching every moment,
checking out every dress,
every accessory,
and all the makeup and hair.

This weekend I am excited to see what Penelope Cruz will be wearing.
She has been rocking the red carpet at the Nine premieres (and everything else she goes to)

Here she is at the LA Premiere

London, freeeezing in Dec!
yet oh so beautiful

I hope she gets best supporting actress.
I also want Marion Cotillard to win
Rob Marshall
Jeff Bridges
Robert Downey Jr

Oh!

I. Can't. Wait.

9 Essential Pieces For Your Makeup Wardrobe

New year, new decade. We've been cleaning out all the old, icky makeup that we have no more use for...
So now its time to make a list of the basic products a girls needs to build her makeup wardrobe from the ground up. Most of you wont need all new products. Use this list as a guide to fill in the missing links.

Look at building your makeup wardrobe the same way as you build a really fabulous clothing wardrobe.
Select great quality, well made products that will serve you well for a long time, not just a season.
A few key pieces can take you beautifully through any event.
The following list makes up the staples for your collection. Think of them as the LBD and black high heels of makeup...

1) Primer.
This is going to give you a pre-makeup base for your foundation to adhere to, to help it stay even, keep it matte, and in general will make your makeup look beautiful, longer.

2) Concealer.
I'm loving Makeup Forever's HD concealers and Julie Hewett's Omit concealers.
I wear one of these two brands every day.
Make sure the concealer you buy can be applied super sheer, so you don't have creasy, gooey or crepey looking concealer showing through your makeup.
Not a good look.

3) Foundation.
Buy the best that you can afford. If you can do a flawless base your makeup will always look great. Try to buy quality.

I normally have a slightly fuller coverage foundation for going out at night, and a lovely sheer, fresh base for day to day.
Be aware too that most of us are a different color during the winter than we are mid summer, so be prepared to have a couple of different shades as well as formulations in your makeup arsenal.

4) Powder.
You need two powders, one loose to set your foundation, and one pressed to do touch ups with.
Ideally get a powder that is colorless and translucent.
When buying powder one of the most significant factors is how finely milled it is.
The smaller the particles, the less you will see on the surface of the skin.
A good powder will be colorless and very finely milled, and will disappear into the skin when applied.

5) Highlighter.
Somewhere along the line its nice to add a highlighter to your product list.
Create a little sheen to the upper cheekbone, keep the skin looking dewey and healthy.

6) Blush.
Invest in a beautiful, soft blush.
This year we will be seeing a lot of soft, beautiful cheeks, so look for gentle hues rather than intense colors that deliver a more angular, defined cheek.

7) Brows.
The look for brows right now is soft, natural and unstructured.
Put brow pencils aside and move into a soft shadow for your brows.

8) Mascara.
I'm not a fan of drug store mascaras.
You dont have to spend a lot of money on mascara, but do get a quality one.
MAC has several that are inexpensive and good.
If you're not going to be swimming or crying, avoid waterproof.

9) Lip Balm.
Every night, every morning, keep your lips luscious.

Eyeshadows and lip colors are more seasonal, so I'll be showing you different products as they come along, but this list should get you started on building a makeup wardrobe that will take you through any season, to any event, or just day to day wear.

Lip Lock Love

Do you ever find that the gorgeous lipstick you absolutely have to have
changes color when you put it on?

Or maybe
the new look is a very pale gloss,
and the full bodied color of your natural lip color keeps
showing through?

Some lips have a blue undertone to them,
othertimes our natural pH just goes ahead and changes the lip color we've applied.
Hmmm.

Well, not to worry.
Gotcha covered.
MAC has a fabulous product called Lip Erase.
Its not a new product, but with all the pale lips heading our way its one you should know about.

Lip Erase is a flesh toned balm that neutralizes and erases natural lip color.
Its shine free and texture free, so you can even use it under a very pale gloss
and not see built up product on the lip.

It comes in two shades for use on pale and medium skin tones.

Fabulous fab-u-lips.

Skincare 101 Keeping It Moist

So lets move forward with our new year's skin care regime.

After cleansing many ladies move on to toning.
Not a huge fan.
I often find toners just strip the skin.
So if you really, truly are oily, or need to lift away a little excess from the T zone
or if you like to use a little toner on a mini break out
go for it.

But moisturizer?
Crucial.
Crazy important.
And we break it down to daytime and night-time.
Because they each are equally important, and do very different jobs.

Lets look at your daytime moisturizer.
Firstly it is of course charged with hydrating your skin.
But it also serves several other important functions.
It helps to protect your skin from environmental pollutants.
It helps protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.
A is for aging, B is for burning.
The twin devils we must avoid.

You can get your daily moisturizer with SPF in it,
or you can add a free standing moisturizer to your regimen.
I do both.

Every morning you must put moisturizer on your clean face.
Every morning.
Leave it on a few minutes before you start your makeup routine, so that it can soak in.
I normally put mine on, then go make my coffee or tea, before I go back and get started on my makeup.

Final word on daytime moisturizer?
Get the best that you can afford and keep using.
Makeup will never look great on dehydrated skin.
Dehydrated skin looks old.
Dehydrated skin ages more speedily.

Be your beautiful best in 2010!

Fun Stuff!

Is it still plagarism if you fess up to it???

I really truly wish I had found this one myself, but it came to me via one of my favorite beauty blogs, the entirely lovely
Beauty School Blog.
And frankly it was entirely too genius to pass up.
I was compelled to share it with you.
I hope you get as big of a giggle out of it as I did!

Oh, and Jen at Beauty School Blog - you are truly fabulous!

Makeup Clean Out!

So just as we did with your skin care products, we now need to take an inventory of your makeup products.
Generally a bigger, badder, bolder job...

After a decade of shopping for odds and ends you're bound to have all kinds of goodies tucked away here and there.
But now its a new decade, and you need
to sort, store and purge.

Organize your makeup.
Keep the good stuff.
You'll find things you forgot you had.

Rule of thumb: if it
smells weird
looks odd
changed color
has an odd consistency
or an odd texture
has any visible decay or bacteria
toss it.

Mascaras that are drying out or crumbling when you put them on
need to go.

Pencils that have a whitish film
need to go.

No past its prime product is worth the sheer hell of an infection.
Just get rid of them.
I googled pictures of skin reactions to expired products, but they were too yucky to post.

While you're at it, shampoo all your brushes. I'll put a link to the brush care tutorial video
at the end of this blog post.
Get them all super clean for the new year, then decide
which can stay and which must go.

And make sure you click in and read tomorrow's blog.
Its kinda funny.

Eye Love...

Yesterday's post about cleansers was a little on the long side, so today I'll keep it brief.

Today I'm staying on the skin care topic, and moving on to eye make up removers.
Most of the gentle cleansers out there will remove eye make up too, but if you wear waterproof eye make up (not my favorite thing. At. All) you'll often need a separate product to get it off.
Also some of the cheapie mascaras are super tough to remove.
I'm not an advocate of them either.

The skin around the eye area is the most delicate, thin skin on the body, and needs extra care.
It's also the first place we see aging.
So in order to be the fabulous creature that you really are, you must take care of the eye area.

I'd say lose the waterproof mascara unless you'll be swimming or crying, and definitely get rid of the cheapie mascaras...

And when you are dealing with products that wont budge, use an eye make up remover.

Sens Eyes by Make Up Forever is my favorite.
I use it in my make up kit.
Super gentle, even those with ultra sensitive eyes can use it. Its great too because makeup can go straight on top of it too, so if you're doing a quick make up change you'll look flawless.

Shiseido makes a good oneand Lancome Bi-Facil has been around forever. Its pretty good too!

When using an eye make up remover, soak a cotton pad with the product and hold it against the eye, so that it can soak in and start dissolving the make up. Then gentle lift away.
Never rub or scrub.
Never.

Eye make up remover is the best thing to remove a lip stain or super bold lip color, such as high velocity reds or burgundies.
Same thing, soak a cotton pad, press, hold and lift away.

Keeping It Clean

So now you've (hopefully) started paring down and tossing out your old skin care products that are no longer serving you well.
If they ever did
.

Have you noticed how the great claims they make on their advertising don't seem to find their way to your skin?
I often wonder exactly who are thes
e test groups that they get their data from?
They certainly don't seem to be anyone like you or me...

So anyway, today we're going to look at how you're cleansing your skin.
Because believe it or not, plenty of women get this part wrong.

The first thing you have to do is analyze your skin, and figure out your skin type.
And this is where women get it wrong.
I can hear a bunch of you out there saying "oily".
And I bet you're n
ot.

You see most of us getting a tad oily/shiny through our T zone
and have normal/dry cheeks.
This is in fact, normal/combination skin.
If you wipe your finger across your ch
eek and it comes up wet,
you're probably oily.

If not, you're not.

And the big mistake I see over and over
is girls thinking they're oily and using a cleanser for oily skin, thereby stripping their skin of essential oils and moisture.
And when this happens you are drying your skin out and prematurely aging it.

When you've cleansed your skin it should never feel pulled or tight. It should feel supple.

So.
Unless you are really, truly oily, avoid foaming cleansers.
Like the plague.

Instead, I want you to invest in a really good milk cleanser. And I will introduce you to a few. Some oil cleansers too.
Your cleanser needs to dissolve make up and clean your skin. Most milk or oil cleansers will also dissolve even the most stubborn eye make up.
But I'll show you som
e good eye make up removers tomorrow.

Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser costs under $10
And its a great little cleanser.

Clarins skin care products are a bit more expensive, but are fabulous.

I don't advocate too many Lancome products, but here and there they have something I like, and Galatee is one of them. Its been around forever, and it is a really good cleansing milk.

And now for the oils.
Many people cringe at the thought of using oil to cleanse your skin, but actually, its pretty fab!
The MAC oil cleanser is often found on set for either pre-make up cleansing or for post make up removal. Its very gentle, and really quite lovely.

Shu Uemura makes truly amazing oil cleansers. They have quite a few for all different skin types, so get the girl at the counter to help choose which is right for you.

Oil lifts away oil, so an oil cleanser can be great fro the oily skinned girls too!

When you are building your skin care wardrobe make sure you are staying within your budget. Find the price point that works for you and work from there.
That way you can maintain some consistency.

And unless you are one of those genetic mutants who were born fabulous, having great skin is like getting great thighs. It takes work and consistency.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

There's nothing quite like a brand new year and a brand new decade to get a girl to evaluate all that she has going on.
Time to get some new goals on the table, time to sort out finances,
and time to give your make up and skin care a thorough clean out.

Today we are going to start reviewing your skin care.

The first thing I want you to do is to get all your skin care products out, line them all up and see what condition they're in.
Anything that you haven't used in ages, or anything thats looking
(or smelling) icky needs to go.

There is no time like right now to pare your supplies down, and really get set up with the essentials. Think of building your skin care wardrobe like building the perfect clothing wardrobe. You want good, classic, well built products as your building blocks.

I've found from talking to vast numbers of women from all over that
A) too many of you don't believe that you can have flawless, beautiful skin
B) too many of you are mis-diagnosing your skin and consequently using the wrong products
C) too many of you are misunderstanding what various products do and can do for you.

So I am going to devote tons of blog space to going over all these things over the next few weeks,
and making sure that you all can get the gorgeous skin you deserve.

There are also going to be some fabulous giveaways coming up.

But for now what we want to do is get rid of products that are old/past their prime/not right for you. And together we are going to start transforming your skin!
