Valentine's Day Makeup #1 ~ In With Skin

I recently shot some beauty segments for
In With Skin.
With Valentine's Day on the imminent horizon
we shot a series of four different makeup looks
to correspond with four different types of date nights.
(scroll to the bottom of this post to see the video tutorial)
on the Beauty Room set at In With Skin Media

We exclusively used makeup products by MAC,
all chosen from their basic line,
(not their specialty or limited edition lines),
so wherever you are in the world you can access
the exact products we used
and duplicate the looks.

Our first Valentine's date scenario
is for a cozy date by the fire,
or a date that's low-key, sweet and romantic.
This is not the time to roll out your banging smokey eye
or your fierce red lip - that would be overkill!
For this type of date its more about being soft
and approachable.
And infinitely kissable.

I prepped our model in the makeup room at In With Skin Studios
prior to going on set.
The key principals are making sure the skin is well hydrated,
giving it a little glow, color correcting only where needed
(in this case just under her eyes), using a light foundation
application, and a soft cream blush.
I used a shade called Something Special.

Valentines Day Makeup, In With Skin

On our model's eyes I started with a paint pot
in a shade called Painterly.
I cheat with this as both an eyeshadow primer, because it acts like one, and as an all over the eye base shade,
because the color is so beautiful.

On top of the Painterly I then applied a fun shade called
Stars n Rockets. This gave us a soft glistening eye
that picks up the light and looks incredibly pretty.
In the crease is a nice matte shade called Fig1.
This lets me create a little dimension and shape to the eye.
I finished the eye out with a kohl pencil in Teddy.

I lined her lips with a MAC lipliner called Embrace Me,
then finished the lip with a lipstick called St Germain.

Pretty, non?

Carolyn Murphy for Paul and Joe Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

Today I'm feeling Grammy'd out
Fashion Week'd out
Editorial'd out.
Too many days without a day off.
So for new inspo I've been looking through the new season's ad campaigns, and I found this gem.
I'm loving every single detail about it
Carolyn Murphy for Paul and Joe Spring 2013 Campaign

Styled by Karl Templer, and working a garden theme to offset the Paul and Joe Spring 2013 collection's floral motif,
model Carolyn Murphy is as fabulous as ever.
Artfully shot by Mikael Jansson.

NYFW F/W 2013 Jason Wu

Jason Wu is one of my favorite designers,
so I was excited to see what he has on offer for Fall 2013,
at New York Fashion Week.

Jason Wu Fall 2013

His lines were long and lean,
sexy and strong.
There was leather and chiffon,
sheers and furs,
outerwear and red carpet worthy pieces
and the plumes I always associate with him.
Love.

NYFW F/W 2013 Day One Recap

Amongst the runway shows piloting the week's fashion
spectacular were Richard Chai Love, Tadashi Shoji
and BCBG Max Azria.

Here is a taste of what to expect this fall:

At Richard Chai Love F/W 2013 the palette
was mostly dark and somber, but was off set by bursts
of violet and purple, and softened with the occasional floral.

Shoulders were structured and lines were clean,
and the outerwear was supreme.

Tadashi Shoji's fall 2013 collection took inspiration
from the designer's sojourn in St Petersburg,
and his immersion into the art, culture and history of this beautiful city.

From billowing peasant dresses that Shoji imagined
the royal family wearing to escape
the revolution in, to cossack power reds,
fabrics were textured and beautiful.

Secret Motif ~ 70's Chic in Arise Magazine

I found this gem whilst researching
some 70's inspiration.
Hind Sahli by Micaela Rossato

Africa's Arise Magazine has this gorgeous editorial
in their new issue, shot by Micaela Rossato.
Moroccan model Hind Sahli puts a delicious spin on 70's glam
as she works it in psychedelic prints from designers including
Marni, Edun and Diane von Furstenburg,
styled by Sabrina Henry.

Makeup artist Christine Cherbonner creates magic
with products from Chanel
and hairstylist Elsa Canedo keeps
Hind's tresses smooth and flowing.
