Midweek Wisdom and Airport Celebs # 3

Happy hump day!
It's time for a little midweek wisdom
paired with a vintage photo of a celeb at an airport.

This week is the irrepressible Liz Taylor
arriving in New York in 1968.

I'd love to think that this is something she would have said.

Midweek Wisdom and Airport Celebs # 2

Happy first Wednesday of 2015!

Today's midweek wisdom is right on point
with a great attitude to wear like a second skin
all year long.

And it's paired with a photo of Cher
at JFK in 1974

Midweek Wisdom + Airport Celebs

I found a series of vintage photos of celebs at the airport
 via Conde Nast Traveler
and was thinking, while it lasts
we could do a little midweek wisdom to get us through hump day
and pair it with a fabulous photo
of a fabulous celeb
being fabulous.

Who better to get the ball rolling
on the final day of 2014
than Marilyn Monroe?

Here is beautiful Marilyn Monroe
leaving La Guardia airport in NYC and heading to Chicago for the premiere of Some Like It Hot
and below it a quote from Mahatma Ghandi

End Of Year Wisdom

The year is nearly over.
As you contemplate the year to come and reflect on the one that's ending, here are some words to think about.

Iconic Jean Shrimpton + Quotes

I love images of iconic actresses and models.
Especially in black and white.
And I love good quotes, so it's fun to combine the two.

British model and actress Jean Shrimpton was known as
"The Face of the 60's", 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", and "The It Girl".
Shrimpton was the symbol of swinging London.
During her career she was thought to be both the highest paid model in the world and the most photographed girl in the world.

In 2012 Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential fashion icons of all time.

There's A Cold Winter Coming...

If flowers can teach themselves how to bloom
after the long, cold winter passes,
then so can you.

Goodbye Oscar de la Renta

Just last week I wrote a blogpost archiving some of designer Oscar de la Renta's magnificent moments in Vogue Magazine.(linked here)

"My job as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best"
Oscar de la Renta

Oscar-de-la-Renta-rest-in-peace

Yesterday I was terribly saddened to hear of his passing at age 82.

Dominican born Oscar de la Renta spent half a century dressing the most glamorous women in the world.
De la Renta apprenticed for Cristobal Balenciage in Spain, and then Lanvin and Balmain in Paris before launching his own line in 1965.

An arbiter of style and timeless elegance, de la Renta's gowns were both a fixture on the red carpet, and also at the White House. He  was the only designer to have dressed every first lady from Jacqueline Kennedy to Michelle Obama.

More recently he designed the wedding dress of George Clooney's bride, Amal Alamuddin.

Never one to fall into the extremism of the fashion industry,
De la Renta famously said "I'm not interested in shock tactics. I just want to make beautiful clothes".

And how incredibly beautiful his clothes always were.

Recently he helped Vogue editor Anna Wintour in her efforts to rehabilitate the career of fashion genius John Galliano. ( read about it here)

The passing of Oscar de la Renta is a major loss to the fashion industry, and to women all over the world who love beautiful clothes.

What Anchors You?

What anchors you?
What keeps you looking forward?
What keeps you moving in the direction of your dreams?

Corinna-B's-World-Quote-Of-The-Day
For me it can be something as big as the next international trip, or as small as the new boots or handbag that I am currently coveting.
It can be as big as the home that you own, or as weightless as the feeling of being completely unencumbered and free to go do anything that you choose.
It's your anchor - you define it.

These Prada Skate Loafers will keep me anchored this fall. I bought them in Italy a couple of weeks ago and they are my absolute favorite new thing.

Sunday Morning In Ortygia, The Glam Italia Tour

"To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything"
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, The Italian Journey (1786-1788)

I'm not quite sure what Goethe was up to here.
Sicily and Italy were not unified until 1861.
And each stands alone, completely magnificent.
But I love the quote.

Sicily is my obsession. Since the very first time I ever set foot on this magical island I have not gone one day without thinking about it. It is always on my mind.
Despite the incredibly long travel day to get here from Phoenix, it was the logical place to start the Glam Italia Tour. (as in start our beach time before our waistlines have a chance to register that we are eating pasta...)

Sunday morning in Ortygia

Ortygia is a little island connected to the city of Siracusa.
The history here is astounding.

Apollo's-Temple-Ortygia-Sicily

The remains of Apollo's temple, built in 732 BC are surrounded by apartments built over the centuries. Some incredibly old, some rebuilt after WWII. Can you imagine looking out your bedroom window at this??

This little boy sat on the steps of the Duomo in the spectacular Piazza Del Duomo, in the searingly bright sunshine, playing the sounds of the soul of Sicily.
The Duomo is a must see. The original Siculi built a temple to the deities here, the in the 5th century BC The Greeks built a temple around it, and since then in has been added to over the centuries. The current facade is Baroque, but as you walk through you see thousands of years of history

Fabulous Quotes ~ Manolo Blahnik

I adore great quotes.
And I adore Manolo Blahnik.
In the September 2014 issue of Allure Magazine he listed 10 beautiful things a woman should own. Or maybe it was just a list of 10 beautiful things.
Anyway he had some glorious quotes in there.

Manolo-Blahnik-Summer-2014

The first was expected "A high heel transforms you. It changes the way you walk, the way you dress..."

But my favorite was when discussing Hermes bags.
He loves an Hermes Tote that I couldn't find online, but I liked the bag below, The Garden Party Bag $3450.00

Hermes-Garden-Party-Bag

And the quote?
"I like all things from Hermes, but the problem is that you have vile celebrities in America wearing a Birkin like it is a trophy. So I like this one that is very simple."

Haha!
