Goodbye Oscar de la Renta

Just last week I wrote a blogpost archiving some of designer Oscar de la Renta's magnificent moments in Vogue Magazine.(linked here)

"My job as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best"
Oscar de la Renta

Yesterday I was terribly saddened to hear of his passing at age 82.

Dominican born Oscar de la Renta spent half a century dressing the most glamorous women in the world.
De la Renta apprenticed for Cristobal Balenciage in Spain, and then Lanvin and Balmain in Paris before launching his own line in 1965.

An arbiter of style and timeless elegance, de la Renta's gowns were both a fixture on the red carpet, and also at the White House. He  was the only designer to have dressed every first lady from Jacqueline Kennedy to Michelle Obama.

More recently he designed the wedding dress of George Clooney's bride, Amal Alamuddin.

Never one to fall into the extremism of the fashion industry,
De la Renta famously said "I'm not interested in shock tactics. I just want to make beautiful clothes".

And how incredibly beautiful his clothes always were.

Recently he helped Vogue editor Anna Wintour in her efforts to rehabilitate the career of fashion genius John Galliano. ( read about it here)

The passing of Oscar de la Renta is a major loss to the fashion industry, and to women all over the world who love beautiful clothes.

Hotel Il San Pietro Di Positano

There is no place on earth quite like the glorious Il San Pietro Hotel in Positano.

No place at all.
Hotel-Il-San-Pietro-Di-Positano-01

The Il San Pietro is an architectural masterpiece, sculpted into the cliffs overlooking the beautiful bay of Positano. The hotel was designed to be in complete harmony with the natural beauty of this very unique stretch of the Amalfi Coast, and combines the utmost in luxury with views so spectacular you can barely breathe.

There are only 62 rooms, each of which has it’s own private balcony with views so stunning you can barely breathe.

The San Pietro has its own private beach that you reach by an elevator cut into the rocks.

The Michelin Star restaurant grows it’s own vegetables in a private terraced garden, and the olive oil comes from The Hotel San Pietro’s own olive grove.
If you are unable to stay at the hotel, a glass of wine on the beautiful Mediterranean terrace, with it’s breathtaking and world famous view of Positano is an absolute must. It is one of those multi-sensory experiences that will stay with you forever.

It is quite possibly the most romantic place on earth and most definitely the very closest you can get to heaven on earth.

How To Look Ageless In A Selfie

I still get hundreds of hits per day on my blogpost about
How to Take An Amazing Selfie.

So today I am updating the selfie story with some tips from Instagram queen and E! Host, Catt Sadler (@IAMCATTSADLER) as seen in Health Magazine.

While researching this I looked at most of her instagram feed (linked both above and at the bottom of this post) and now I am a little bit obsessed! Now I want to know what she's getting up to next, and what she's wearing while she's at it...

How to Look Ageless In A Selfie

1. Be Real
Say no to duck face.
Catt says a beautiful shot of a barefaced woman is better, but looking through her Instagram selfies there are just so many gorgeous images with makeup on! So avoid duck face, but be your gorgeous self.

2. Look Up
Catt is a fan of the high angle shot because it's much more flattering.
I say keep the camera slightly above eye level. If your curves are looking too curvy angle it higher and you will look both slimmer AND younger.

3. Choose The Right Light
Natural daylight is ideal. Avoid light shining down from above you - it creates shadows all over your face and adds 10 years. Light should be coming directly at you, essentially at eye level.

I only found Catt Sadler on Instagram via her bestie, Jacey Duprie @DAMSELINDIOR who is one of my absolute faves. I look at her Instagram most days, and get her blog, Damsel In Dior delivered to my email each day.

Fifty Words For Snow ~ Vogue Netherlands October 2014

Oh this shoot is just everything!

Fifty-Words-For-Snow-Vogue-Netherlands-Jpeg-01

Photographer Ishi captures model Emily Baker in a wardrobe resplendent in furs and oversized coats for the October 2014 issue of Vogue Netherlands.
I love the juxtaposition of bronze skin against the silvers and winter whites.
I love the movement.
I love the braids.
Just perfect.
