Lilac Spring Fever

My favorite color is purple.
I love it in all its many shades, hues and nuances.
Love.

So I am super thrilled that this spring is going to show us lots of violets and lilacs,
both in clothes
and in makeup.

Hermes, showed it in separates

Cynthia Rowley fresh violet with soft movement.

oooh! Alberta Ferretti sweet lilac dress

and I die.
Over Burberry Porsum's gorgeous lilac dress and killer fab shoe!

We actually have a makeup tutorial video coming up in the next couple of weeks
that is all about how to do a violet eye.

One of my favorite products at the moment to compliment this gorgeous lilac fashion moment
is Julie Hewett Shimmie in Pixie.

You can use your fingers to pat it along the cheekbone for a slightly
hued highlight.
Or wear it alone on the eye, or over an eyeshadow
to bring violet eyes to life.

Simply gorgeous!

Racing and a Giveaway. Or Racing Giveaway?

So, today we are going to have another quick look at some racing stuff from this past weekend,
and we're going to have ourselves a fun giveaway.
A racing related giveaway.
Perfect for race fans and for girls who don't follow racing at all...

First up, if you didn't check in yesterday, 12 of my favorite drivers
from the NHRA
had a little video chat with my blog readers.

That's you!

I don't know if that's ever been done before for someones blog?
You should feel a bit special round about now...
If you didn't see it yesterday, or if you want to see it again (and again and again)
I've put it at the bottom of today's post.
You have to check it out.
Its very cool.
There's a list of the drivers and links to their websites on yesterdays blog post
Weekend At The Races.

I have to congratulate 2 of the drivers on the video for winning this weekend.
Cory Mac won Top Fuel
Fast Jack Beckman won Funny Car.
Congratulations guys! And congratulations Don Schumacher Racing.

If you're on twitter you can follow Cory Mac click here
and Jack Beckman at Shoeracing's twitter Click here

Anyway I'll be back to makeup videos in the next couple of days,
but today I've got one more for the race fans.
If you've never been to an NHRA race before
you need to beware of the warmup.
Its quite something.
If you're walking through the pit area
and you hear them fire up one of the cars,
get upwind as quickly as you can.
Its super loud (earplugs!!)
And the fumes will make your eyes pour tears, your nose, throat and lungs burn.

Here's a video I took from inside the DSR Hospitality suite, looking into Jack Beckman's pit.
On my handy dandy FlipCam UltraHD from The Flip.com
Check out the folks at the fumey end of the car!
Crazy!!

And now for our spectacular giveaway!

We have teamed up with the fantastic Drag Strip Girl Designs
and are giving away one of these fabulous Drag Strip Girl ladies T shirts!

Weekend At The Races

So this weekend the NHRA rolled into Firebird International Raceway.

Once again we were taken care of by Don Schumacher Racing,
who not only have amazing hospitality,
but really do seem to enjoy being fantastic hosts.

They take an already fun situation and really raise the bar.
Love it!

Courtesy of the fine folks at TheFlip.com
I was armed with a flipcam ultraHD
so I could get you the goods from behind the scenes.

I decided it might be fun to have you meet some of my favorite drivers.
So on Saturday we made you a little movie.
You'll see how cool and fun these guys and girls are.
Check it out:

Aren't they cool? There were a couple more I was planning on getting for you, but fun, racing and socializing all got me distracted...

Anyway, here are the stars of this little video, (in order of appearance) and I've linked their websites so that you can go check them out.

Tim Wilkerson

NHRA races are really fast, exciting, and so loud you can "feel the noise".
Here is another clip I got with the FlipCam UltraHD.
It shows John Force and Cruz Pedregon racing their Nitro Funny Cars.

Each run starts out with a burnout.
Now I'm sure there's some technical thing going on,
getting traction for the tires or something,
but it always looks like big old macho man posturing,
pre race psyching the opponent out .
Its brilliant!
I looove it!

Tomorrow I'll have some more fun stuff to show you,
and who knows,
maybe a giveaway too.

Actually, we will do a giveaway.
See you tomorrow!

How To Apply Cream Blush

I'm always talking about Julie Hewett's fabulous Cheekie in the shade Vampie.
Basically because I wear it everyday and L.O.V.E it!

Anyway, people often tell me that they don't know how to put on cream blushes,
or they see how deep the color of Vampie is in the pot,
and think they're going to have dark purple cheeks.
Not so lovies!
Its really easy to apply this beautiful cheek color,
and this is how you do it:

More NYC Runway Makeup Loooove!!

Getty Images via SociallySuperlative.com

I beyond loved and adored the fantastic eye at Venexiana (above).
Bare/nude face, enormous lashes, and exquisitely blended chocolate brown shadow.
Fantastic!!

Devi Kroell (above) and Philosophy both showed bare face and big liner.
Good for a show, but maybe a bit too fashion victim-ish for street level.
I'd add a little more love to translate this to regular gal wear.

At Marc Jacobs Francois Nars gave a very soft blue and lavender eye, with black liner and clumpy lashes, evoking that Kate Moss feel of the morning after the night before.

Images via overoll.com

At Thakoon Diane Kendal gave us luminous, fresh skin, enhanced with Nars Lovejoy on the cheekbones, and newbie Medusa on the apples (due fro release fall 2010).
Many of the bare faced looks are very ho hum, but I thought this one was lovely.

orange/red lips at Richard Chai

Vena Cava had a beautiful, soft, deconstructed brow and soft eyes, totally set off by bright orange red lips.
Fierce, fresh and alive.

I love this Carolina Herrera LBD.
Love, Want, Need.

images by Frazier Harrison/Getty Images

The makeup at Carolina Herrera is perhaps my favorite to date.
Largely because it translates beautifully to street wear, and is gorgeous on most, if not all, skins.
Makeup genius Diane Kendal, this time in for MAC used Indian Ink and Fig shadows, offset by Subtle Romance lip shine.
This look is forever.

Hola NYC!!

Back when I was doing runway shows things were pretty different.
The lead makeup artist created the look using products he or she loved and used.
Now it is mostly paid for by MAC.
Ho hum.
Not as much fun.

Anyhoo, along with one of my best friends,
Nashville Makeup Artist Lisa Johnson,
I've been watching the makeup at fashion week in NYC.
And here is some of what we're seeing:

Getty images

At Nicole Miller the concept was Bright Lights, Big City - the woman who wants to conquer the urban Jungle.
Makeup Artist Tom Pecheux decided to do a smudgy, somewhat greasy looking eye.
Pretty cool really.
He used MAC gray lip gloss in Meow, and applied it to the entire eyelid up to the brow, then smoldered in MAC Smolder eye pencil along the lids and crease as well as the lashline.
He then smudged MAC Fearless lipstick under the lashline as a liner.

Although fierce on the runway, the greasy lip products would no doubt be tricky to wear at street level, but its easy enough to copy this cool look with shadows.

Getty images

At Nicole Miller MAC Makeup artist James Kaliardos went for a look that was hazy, sweet and really beautiful.
He did a gray smoky eye, rosy cheeks, and a stained mouth (using MAC lipstick in Plum Dandy)

This pretty look will be huge for fall/winter, and will look fabulous on most.

image byKurt Wilberding

Woo hoo! Love this one!
Diane Von Furstenburg.
MAC Makeup Artist James Kaliardos did this one too.
Mac black cream shadow with blue and green powder shadows over top and some sparkle in the inner corner.

Pucker It Up Lip-o-licious!

Soooo.
Valentines Day is just around the corner.
Round about now would be a super good time to figure out what your kisser will be dressed in
on the big day. Or Night.

I've just done about a billion jobs featuring hot reds.
I'm a little bit over the red thing for this weekend.
So I'm thinking more of softer, more kissable colors.

Here's what I'm lovin

Chanel Glossimer lipglosses.
They have enough color to be endlessly fabulous.
They're smooth and they have some sparkle, adult style.
This weekend I'm feeling it in Equinoxe, a deeper more sultry color,
and in Sundress, a soft pinky tone.
Kissable.

Nars lipglosses.
I use them in my kit endlessly.
Bilitis. Of course he saw that movie!

Positano. Love the town, love the lip color.

La Dolce Vita. Glorious on all skin tones.

Mr Nars also makes the beautiful Sabrina lip balm.
It smells like melon, has SPF20, and is a subtle pink shimmer.
Lovely if you're into keeping it sheer and sweet.

OCC Lip Tar.
I devoted a blog post to it once before.
And I say devoted, because pro makeup artists have a crazy kind of love for this
truly amazing lip product.
It never looks or feels heavy.
It goes on like a lipstick, with the ease of a gloss,
slick and moist,
then dries to a satin finish.
And is packed with color pigment.
Packed!

I adore it in Hush.
An antique bridal pink.
Gorgeous.

My last choice for Valentino's Day?

Dior Beige Silk.

Beautiful, classic, lovely.
Definitely smooch worthy.

Enjoy lovies!

Accentuate Your Eye Color

I thought this was kinda fun!

I found it on SheKnows.com Beauty section.
Which is always worth having a look at.
You'll even see me on there sometimes.
Giving makeup tips etc.
Anyway, the video I was going to post for you today is having trouble loading.
Which left me a tad unprepared.

So, here's a little something that I didn't write...

Beauty tips to accentuate your eye color

For your eyes only
Crystal Patriarche

Forget about pouty lips and rosy cheeks.
The eyes are the windows to the soul,
so you want yours to shine brightly.
Regardless if you're a blue-eyed beauty
or a brown-eyed cutie
or if your eyes are green with envy.
We have some great tips
to accentuate the color of your eyes in a snap.

Know your true colors

The easiest way to make your eyes stand out
is to use complimentary shades of eyeshadow
that work best with your specific eye color.

It may come as a surprise,
But you should not wear the same color eyeshadow
as your eye color.

Here are some general guidelines:

For brown eyes, try pale greens or blues.
This brings out the warm tones in your eyes
and makes them look richer.

Use darker jewel tones, like plum
for a smoky and sultry look.

For green eyes, use pink tones
and reddish-berry shades for daytime wear
and shimmering bronze and ruby shades
for evening.
The contrast of the reddish shades against
the green of your eyes will make the color
of your eyes sparkle.

For blue eyes, try peach and orange shades for daywear,
and copper and burnt orange shades for
evening shimmer.

These complimentary shades will make the blue of your eyes radiant.
Just remember that since everyone's eye color is different,
you'll want to shop where you can try out a few different shades of colors
in the same families, for a perfect match for you.

For green eyes, CHOOSE THESE COLOR COMBOS:

Gold, bronze, copper
Brown, chocolate, mustard yellow

Peach, beige, Champagne, taupe, apricot
Plum, mauve, purple, violet, pink
Deep and mossy green shades

For blue eyes, choose THESE COLOR COMBOS:

Pink, rose, violet, lavender
Gray, silver, copper
Dark blue, light blue, turquoise
Charcoal, black, brown

For brown eyes, choose THESE COLOR COMBOS:

Brown, beige, tan
Gray, charcoal
Khaki, olive green, mocha
Bronze, gold
Violet, lavender, blue

SuperSonic Skin Care Looove!!!

I forgot to ask you if you got anything good for Christmas???
I did.
Santa gave me some lovin
via the amazing Clarisonic Plus Limited Edition.

I've been wanting a Clarisonic for ages.

Movie stars swear by Clarisonic
Models swear by Clarisonic
Cosmetic surgeons and Dermatologists swear by Clarisonic

And now, so do I!

Clarisonic was created by the same people who made the Sonicare toothbrush,
and it works along the same lines.
Except that the brush head was specifically designed to be used on the skin.
And more specifically the delicate skin on the face.

The gentle sonic vibrations rotate at 300 movements per second,
cleaning deeply, clearing pores and removing six times more makeup than regular cleansing.
Rough patches get evened out,
dead, dry skin gets lifted away,
blemishes clear up and go away,
oily areas get reduced,
and you are left with clear, gleaming, radiant, beautiful skin.

It also works on the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Its amazing!

We just shot 10 new makeup tutorial videos, after I'd been using my Clarisonic Plus for 5 weeks.
You can see the difference in my skin.
(check out the Valentine's Day Makeup video series and see for yourself!)

I am sooo hooked!

One of the special features of the Clarisonic Plus model, is an extra brush head that you can change out and use on the body.
You can spot treat areas like decollete, elbows, hands, arms, knees.
Smooth it all!
The set comes with cleansing products too.

Some of the aesthetics schools,
such as the SouthWest Institute Of Natural Aesthetics in Tempe, Arizona
actually have Clarisonic training as part of their curriculum.
That's how important this product is.
Its revolutionary in the world of skin care.

Love!

The Limited Edition (like mine) comes in a classic rose and lilac paisley print.
50% of the profits from the Limited EditionClarisonic go to
the Susan G Komen Foundation to help us win the fight against cancer.
So you're saving your face and saving your boobies.

The Limited Edition Clarisonic is available exclusively online at
www.Clarisonic.com

New year, new decade, new you - you need a Clarisonic Plus.
Your skin will love you for it.
